Otonabee Conservation is pleased to host a Discovery Days event for the entire family will enjoy. The events are free of charge and pre-registration is not required.
12:00 noon – 4:00 p.m. Be sure to visit the interactive display and talk to the staff of the newly established Kawartha Wildlife Centre and the “Small Butts, Big Problem” exhibit presented by Peterborough Public Health.
10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon TackleShare Fishing Workshop
The OFAH/OPG TackleShare crew will have everything young anglers need to safely cast out a line, including rods, reels, tackle, bait and personal floatation gear. The team will also have an interactive educational display, which includes introductory fishing instruction, information on invasive species and water safety, and lessons on aquatic habitat and conservation. There is no charge to participate in the workshop and pre-registration is not required.
Anglers under the age of 18 are not required to possess a fishing license; however, anglers between the ages of 18 and 64 must possess a valid fishing license to legally fish in Ontario waters.
12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m. Snakes of Ontario (Live)
Sciensational Snakes presents an interactive program that introduces the snakes of Ontario. You will learn how to identify them, as well as their interesting features, behaviour and habitat.
2:00 – 3:00 p.m. Birds of Prey (Live)
Join staff from Wild Ontario and get a close-up view of several of Ontario’s birds of prey. Learn about their behaviour and habitat requirements, how they may be impacted by changes in our climate and changes to the landscape.
4:00 – 5:00 p.m. Guided Paddling Tour
Join staff from Otonabee Conservation for a paddling tour of Little Lake. You can use your own canoe or kayak, or rent one from the campground. Learn about local plant and wildlife species, history and culture of the area.
