Rehabilitation of Warsaw Auxiliary Dam and Back Dam

Do you live near the Warsaw Dams in Warsaw, Ontario?

If so, please be advised that this Fall, construction will take place to repair and rehabilitate the Auxiliary Dam (909 South Street) and the Back Dam (902 Rock Road) in Warsaw, Township of Douro-Dummer, Ontario..

How long will the construction be going on?

Construction work on the Warsaw Back Dam will commence on Monday, October 4th and is expected to continue until October 21st. Work at the Warsaw Auxiliary Dam will be completed on or before December 15th.

What type of repairs are being done?

Concrete and erosion mitigation repairs will ensure that dam operators and members of the public are safe when they are on or around the dams. Repairs will also ensure continued dam stability and protection of dam integrity.

Will the water levels be lowered during construction?

Current water levels will remain the same with the commencement of the construction period.

The regular, annual fall drawdown of the dam reservoir will occur in November.  A single stoplog will be removed some time after November 1st once the downstream construction is complete.

Once the stoplog is removed, shoreline residents can expect water levels to decrease above the dams; water levels and flows will increase below the dams. Water levels and flows will stabilize in the days following fall drawdown operations. In total, water levels will decrease 6 to 12 inches in the reservoir.

Property owners upstream and downstream from the dams should ensure that all boats, floating docks, etc. are removed from the water before the reservoir drawdown begins.

How will this affect me?

During the construction period, you will see workers and equipment at the dams. Access to the area will be restricted by fencing. There will be an increase in vehicle activity. You should avoid the area while construction is ongoing.

Please note that access to the Back Dam Park will remain open during construction.

Work will be completed in accordance with authorization provided under the Ministry of Northern Development, Mines, Natural Resources and Forestry’s Lakes and Rivers Improvement Act and the Conservation Authority Act’s Ontario Regulation 167/06 – Development, Interference with Wetlands and Alterations to Shorelines and Watercourses.
