Yellow Fish Road

The Yellow Fish Road (YFR) is a program developed by Trout Unlimited Canada. Otonabee Conservation delivers the YFR program locally.

The program is free of charge for students from JK to Grade 12. Participants learn that water from storm drains flows into local creeks and rivers. This means that only rain should go down the storm drain. Anything else can harm water quality and fish habitat.

YFR includes two components, a presentation and an outdoor activity. During the presentation students learn about aquatic habitat and water quality. We also emphasize the linkages between human health, environmental health, and climate change. The outdoor activity involves painting yellow fish beside storm drains. Yellow fish door hangers are also delivered to homes nearby to raise awareness of the program, and how to protect local water quality.
