Flood Watch issued for the Trent Severn-Waterway

Message # 2026-06

Issued:  4:00 p.m., Wednesday March 18, 2026

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE |
Flood Watch for the Trent Severn-Waterway
Watershed Condition Statement – Water Safety for local watercourses

A FLOOD WATCH is in effect for the Trent-Severn Waterway within the Otonabee Region watershed. Recent warmer temperatures and precipitation in the Haliburton-Reservoir Lakes area have caused a significant increase in water runoff, leading to higher flows in rivers and streams that drain south into the Kawartha Lakes and Otonabee River. As a result, there is potential for nuisance to minor-level flooding of low-lying, flood vulnerable areas, starting this week and continuing through next week.

A WATERSHED CONDITIONS STATEMENT – WATER SAFETY remains in effect for local watercourses as they continue to flow at hazardously high levels, but flooding is not expected.
Residents are reminded to stay away from shorelines, and off the ice due to unsafe conditions. Stay informed by monitoring weather updates and water levels, or subscribe on our website to receive flood messages directly.

Water levels can be monitored on-line at:

1)    Trent-Severn Waterway’s Water Management InfoNet
2)    Water Survey of Canada Real-Time Hydrometric Data
3)    Otonabee Conservation website

This FLOOD WATCH message will expire Thursday, March 26, 2026, at 3 p.m., unless up-dated earlier.
