Level 2 Low Water Condition declared in Otonabee Region Watershed

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE | Level 2 Low Water Condition declared in Otonabee Region Watershed

Peterborough, Ontario (August 22, 2025) The Otonabee Region Water Response Team has declared a Level 2 Low Water condition for the Otonabee Region watershed.

Following a meeting on Thursday, August 21, 2025, the Water Response Team decided  that the recent rainfall has not been sufficient to improve current conditions. Minor water supply issues are already being experienced, and there is potential for major water supply problems.

Residents and businesses are urged to reduce their water use by 20%.
The average Canadian uses approximately 225 litres of water per day—a 20% reduction equals about 40 litres. Simple actions can make a big difference:

•    Take shorter showers
•    Turn off the tap while brushing teeth
•    Use rain barrels to water gardens
•    Run full loads in dishwashers and washing machines

Watershed residents are asked to educate themselves and follow any municipal water restrictions currently in place.

The Water Response Team is a multi-sector committee that monitors watershed conditions and coordinates local response efforts under Ontario’s Low Water Response Program.
