Water Safety Statement May 27, 2025

Message #2025-14
Issued: 4:00 p.m., Thursday, May 27, 2025

WATERSHED CONDITIONS STATEMENT – WATER SAFETY has been issued for Trent-Severn Waterway (TSW).

Due to the unusually high-water levels and flows, Trent-Severn Waterway has announced a partial closure within the jurisdiction of Otonabee Conservation to ensure public safety. There are no current flooding concerns.

Trent-Severn Waterway has reported a significant amount of rain recently and is forecasted to receive more in the coming days, causing above seasonal water levels. As a result, TSW is increasing flows through dams and is partially closing the system to navigation. This is to enhance boater safety and help to prevent shoreline erosion and property damage. All boaters are strongly encouraged to lower their speeds and watch their wake.

From Peterborough to Youngs Point, boaters should expect maximum water levels and flows during TSW’s normal hours of operation. The public should consider flows outside operating hours as unsafe for navigation until further notice.

Parks Canada will re-open the entire system for navigation as soon as it safe to do so. For operating hours, updates and more information about the TSW, visit https://parks.canada.ca/lhn-nhs/on/trentsevern.

Through its Flood Forecasting and Warning Program, Otonabee Conservation actively monitors water levels, flows, weather forecasts and other factors to alert our partners in food emergency management about current and forecasted watershed conditions relevant to flooding. 1. Trent-Severn Waterway’s Water Management InfoNet
  2. Water Survey of Canada Real-Time Hydrometric Data

This WATERSHED CONDITIONS STATEMENT-WATER SAFETY is effective immediately and will remain in effect until Wednesday June 04, 2025, unless updated earlier.
