Watershed Conditions Statement December 18, 2025

Message #2025-15

Issued: 10:30 a.m., Thursday, December 18, 2025

WATERSHED CONDITIONS STATEMENT – WATER SAFETY issued for all lakes and rivers in the region. Currently there are no flooding concerns.

This Watershed Conditions Statement is being issued due to the increased temperatures and the 10 to 20 mm of rain forecasted to begin overnight on Thursday. This may result in increased water levels and flow as frozen ground will have limited ability to absorb the runoff from rain and snowmelt.  Rain will change to snow on Friday, December 19th, as temperatures begin to drop but no flooding is expected.

The public is advised to stay away from watercourses and stay off ice-covered waterbodies as they pose safety risks due to fast-moving water, unstable banks and weakened ice conditions.

Through its Flood Forecasting and Warning Program, Otonabee Conservation actively monitors water levels, flows, weather forecasts and other factors to alert our partners in food emergency management about current and forecasted watershed conditions relevant to flooding. Water levels can be monitored on-line at:

This WATERSHED CONDITIONS STATEMENT-WATER SAFETY is effective immediately and will remain in effect until 3 p.m., Monday December 22, 2025, unless updated earlier.
