Report a Concern

Are you concerned with activities being done within a Regulated Area

Regulated Areas are lands associated with:

  • Shorelines
  • Wetlands
  • Rivers, streams or lake valleys
  • Creeks, and small watercourses
  • Steep slopes, unstable soils and unstable bedrock
  • Floodplains

 Development Activities that qualify:

  • Construction of structures/buildings
  • Fill placement
  • Grading modifications and earthworks
  • Alteration or Interference to watercourses and wetlands

If your complaint is about an issue at one of our Conservation Areas or Trails, please report this using the "Report an Issue" form in the Conservation Lands menu.

  • Shorelines
  • Wetlands
  • Lands within 30 meters of a wetland
  • Rivers, streams or lake valleys
  • Creeks, drains and ditches
  • Steep slopes, unstable soils and unstable bedrock
  • Areas subject to flooding

Check if your area of concern is in a Regulated Area.

  • Any work that involves disturbing the shoreline (Digging, dredging grading, placing or removing rocks, soil and gravel, etc)
  • Large Fill receiver sites and movement of excess soils
  • Installing culverts, modifying creeks and streams
  • Building or expanding any kind of structure including a house, garage, boathouse, decks, and accessory structures

We do not respond to the following complaints:

  • Wildlife in distress. If you believe an animal is in distress, call 1-833-9-ANIMAL or your local municipal animal control office.
  • Beaver or beaver dams. If you have a concern about beavers or beaver dams on your property, please reach out to the MNR for advice.
  • Invasive Species. If you have found an invasive species, you can file a report with the MNR.
  • Fish or fish habitat. If you believe there may have been a harmful impact to fish or fish habitat, please contact the DFO.
  • Spills. If you believe a spill has occurred and may be contaminating the environment, call the Spills Action Centre Hotline at 1-866-MOE-TIPS (663-8477).
  • Proposed development or subdivisions. If you have a complaint about a development proposal, please contact your local municipality.
  • Trees being cut down. Tree cutting is regulated by each municipality, subject to their local by-laws.
  • Garbage dumping, noise complaints, property standards or septic concerns: Please contact your local municipality's bylaw department.
  • Minor landscaping
  • Temporary parking of campers/trailers
  • Sheds smaller than 15 square metres (these do not require a permit)

Please note: This form must be used to file a complaint or concern. Otonabee Conservation staff do not accept email complaints forwarded directly to staff. The complaint or concern will be logged and assigned accordingly once verified as legitimate in nature, and that the issue/concern falls within the mandate of Otonabee Conservation.

Otonabee Conservation staff do not follow-up on anonymous complaints or tips. Once you submit your complaint, you will not be contacted unless additional information is requested. Status updates will not be provided.
